I want to make a disclaimer that I’ve only gotten in a couple hours of playing the demo as of making this post. I also have not found any nearly full games so I won’t comment so much on gameplay, aside from the game’s mechanic, but I want to share some feedback on what I’ve noticed so far.
The designs for the characters and vehicles all look good. I especially like the Comm’s armor and ships.
The transition between space and atmosphere is pretty seamless and well done. It really feels like you are coming in from orbit.
The hit detection is good for most weapons.
The hover pack is a lot of fun.
Gun shots and explosions don’t have enough volume and real substance for the sounds. This is especially evident from the tank, which seems quite when it shoots and doesn’t seem to leave a big enough explosion.
The music is pretty repetitive during gameplay. Adding more songs during the game would help this a lot.
At numerous moments I believe I was hearing sound from someone else’s game.
Hangers feel kind of empty.
Snipers are a bit too precise and easy to get one shot kills with. It seems easy to jump hover pack up to a high place and lock down an enemy team with one, but I haven’t gotten into any full matches so it is hard to tell if this is true in large games.
The mudskipper speeders only make a sound if the move. When compared to similar vehicles from other games, this is very odd. Hearing the engine and mechanics of vehicles when they are sitting while in use would really help with immersion and make vehicles feel more complete.
Auto-reload seems to be absent from infantry weapons. I feel like the player shouldn’t have to manually reload if a gun runs our by pressing “r”, but rather if they shoot with an empty clip or maybe right when they run out the game should force a reload, unless the action is canceled by another action. This is similar to most other shooters.
That’s all I have to say for now. I know I said a lot of negatives, but considering the game was made from volunteer work with no pay, it is incredible that it has made it this far. I can tell a lot of passion is gone into the game, and I hope this feedback is helpful for really bringing it all the way to be a great game.
